Tradition, Sustainability, and Hospitality in Tuscany

Tenuta Guardastelle is a testament to dedication and sustainable progress, nestled atop a historic Tuscan hill. The estate's roots trace back to the 15th century, showcasing architectural techniques reminiscent of the iconic towers of San Gimignano. In 1984, Susanna, driven by her passion for heritage, revitalized this nearly abandoned property, marking the beginning of its renaissance.

Formerly known as Sovestro in Poggio, the estate underwent extensive renovations from 2003 to 2007, embracing eco-friendly principles by reusing materials and preserving the cultural heritage of the area. The name Tenuta Guardastelle was adopted in 2007, inspired by a starry sky, symbolizing a renewed purpose and distinction.

Today, Tenuta Guardastelle thrives as a countryside hotel near Florence and Siena, blending art, culture, and nature. The estate prioritizes sustainability through waste reduction, rainwater harvesting, and eco-friendly practices to protect its cherished surroundings. Guests can enjoy authentic experiences, including wine tastings and cooking classes, while embracing the region's rich history and traditions.

Exceptional Tuscan Wines

As a family-run winery in Tuscany, Tenuta Guardastelle excels in the renowned denominations of San Gimignano, particularly Chianti, including Chianti Colli Senesi, and Vernaccia di San Gimignano. The estate's five hectares of vineyards, situated at 290 meters above sea level with a favorable southeast exposure, benefit from abundant sunlight. The rich tuff soil provides resilience against climate fluctuations, ensuring grape maturation even during dry spells. Hand-harvesting and meticulous grape selection yield high-sugar content grapes, achieving the prestigious DOCG certification. Their portfolio proudly includes Chianti Colli Senesi and Vernaccia di San Gimignano, along with the new IGT wines, "Maria Assunta" and "Passaluna," reflecting tradition and lunar influence.

More Than Just a Winery

Tenuta Guardastelle offers a holistic experience in Tuscany beyond wine. Culinary enthusiasts can participate in cooking classes, mastering pasta preparation and savoring local dishes. Olive oil tastings reveal the estate's artisanal olive oil production. Accommodations provide a peaceful retreat in the Tuscan countryside, equipped with modern comforts. Guests can relax by the on-site pool while enjoying breathtaking views. The winery's proximity to Florence and Siena invites visits to these historic cities. Nature lovers can stroll through vineyards, olive groves, and gardens, appreciating the region's natural beauty. This comprehensive offering ensures a well-rounded Tuscan experience.

We have been to Guardastelle for the second year in a row. A fantastic property in a beautiful location with a great pool and extremely well-kept and beautifully decorated apartments that lack nothing in terms of amenities. It is a good 20-minute walk to San Gimignano, for example to have dinner there. The breakfast in Guardastelle is unique and all the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. We would love to come back.

What a beautiful place! The grounds are lovely and the place is quiet. We stayed in Virgo apartment which is close to the pool. It was very comfortable and had everything we needed. There was a nice veranda. Breakfast in the main building was fresh, tasty and plentiful. Sadly, my husband had a cold and didn’t want to risk giving it to other guests by going to breakfast but the staff cooked him an omelette and brought it to our room, along with buffet items. It’s like staying at a family home. Highly recommended.

We stayed at Guardastelle for a wedding and it was absolutely beautiful and wonderful in every way! The staff was so kind and loved our baby girl that stayed with us as well. The rooms were spacious and very comfortable even with an extra child bed. We could walk into town or there was a shuttle available as well. We chose the walk for the additional views and tranquility :). Wine was also fantastic - we may be ordering some for the family! We had a wonderful stay and would definitely stay again if we had the chance!

Guardastelle is gorgeous. We wanted some relaxation, in a beautiful spot in Tuscany where we could ride bikes in the countryside and wake up to a beautiful view. Guardastelle is the place to go. We had the gorgeous Theresa room overlooking a rural setting of vineyards and the pool. Breakfast is lovely and we followed that up with an e-bike ride through the countryside to San Gimignano an ancient village in the hills. A perfect stay for us and the staff were friendly and welcoming. The wine too is a treat!

Great experience! Very kind, welcoming and attentive staff. The structure and the landscape are nothing short of breathtaking, immersed in the vineyards on one side and with the view of San Gimignano on the other. We had the picnic experience, very well equipped and with many delicacies to try! Excellent wine and sauces to accompany cheeses and cured meats prepared directly by their exquisite cook! We will definitely be back!

We stayed for four nights at Guardastelle in September, and our experience was truly wonderful. Each morning, we enjoyed delicious breakfasts with stunning views of the Tuscan countryside. The service was excellent, with great communication both before and during our stay. We highly recommend this charming place for couples traveling to Tuscany. We would love to return one day!
