Exceptional Wines from Ancient Soils in Campania
Terrantiqua Winery, rooted in three generations of olive farming and winemaking, combines traditional practices with a commitment to sustainability. This winery has long been a cornerstone of the local wine scene, showcasing well-preserved equipment that reflects its rich history.
Vineyard and Grapes of Terrantiqua
The vineyards of Terrantiqua thrive on ancient plains, enriched with minerals that contribute to the distinct character of its wines. The soils, composed of fossiliferous clays and sandstones dating back 60 to 100 million years, provide a unique environment for grape cultivation. These layers of fossils infuse the grapes with essential minerals and organic compounds, resulting in wines with exceptional flavor, aroma, and health benefits, including antioxidants like resveratrol.
Wines and Olive Plantation
In addition to its renowned wines, Terrantiqua manages 4 hectares of olive groves featuring over 900 trees, primarily of the Ortice and Leccino varieties. Notably, around 300 Ortice trees are over 300 years old. These olive trees flourish in nutrient-rich clay and fossiliferous sandstone soils. The olives are hand-harvested just before ripening and transported to the mill in perforated baskets within hours to maintain their freshness and quality.
