Winery Built on the Top of a Hill
Built on the hilltop of Le Tolfe appears Torre alle Tolfe, a family winery in the beautiful Medieval city of Siena. The estate covers 100 hectares of which 13 are planted with vines, interspersed with olive groves, woodland, and meadows centered on an eighth-century watch-tower and 17-bedroom villa. The entire property is run as a certified organic farm, producing a variety of wines, and premium olive oil, with the arable land producing a variety of organic grains and pulses. A number of other former farm buildings in the estate have been converted to charming apartments, well-appointed, and with wonderful views over the adjacent countryside and across to Siena.
Perfectly Blended Organic Wines
They produce spectacular Sangiovese which is the main component of our wines, with other local varieties including Canaiolo, Colorino, and Ciliegiolo. Only the best grapes go further into producing wines of exquisite taste and distinction. Since 2003, they are using organic methods and are constantly moving towards more natural and sustainable methods. All tasks from hand pruning the vines to the bottling of wines is done manually, which also helps them to exceed their quality standards. They offer red and rose wines that are blended to its perfection.
Torre alle Tolfe, Family of Families
Three families in particular make up our key workforce and have contributed greatly to life at La Torre alle Tolfe for decades, forming a close-knit community. Torre alle Tolfe currently produces six wines: Chianti Colli Senesi, Chianti CS Riserva, Rosato Lunella, Ciliegiolo, Canaiolo, and Castro de Tolfis. Apart from this, they also produce an organic Grappa through the distillation of the Sangiovese skins. Their wines reflect the features of their quality vineyards and terroir without much use of technology and other advancement used in the wine industry nowadays.
