Founded in 1971, Vinhos Norte Winery is a proud family-owned business located in the picturesque Vinho Verde region of Portugal. Now in its third generation, the winery has evolved significantly since its first bottling line was established in 1981. By 1985, they expanded their facilities to enhance production capabilities. Vinhos Norte is dedicated to crafting high-quality wines that reflect the unique characteristics of their region, utilizing modern winemaking techniques and state-of-the-art equipment.
Antonio Carvalho and Domingos Carvalho oversee the vineyards, employing organic practices to maintain the health of the land and vines. The region's ideal climate, with its perfect rainfall and soil conditions, supports the growth of exceptional grape varieties such as Loureiro, Arinto, Trajadura, and Alvarinho. The dedicated team at Vinhos Norte carefully selects the finest grapes to create their renowned white wines.
Vinhos Norte places a strong emphasis on social responsibility in its operations. In 2005, they implemented a water treatment plant to ensure clean water usage. Their commitment to environmental stewardship earned them the Social Responsibility Award from the Spanish Ourense Business Confederation in 2006. Additionally, they have made their wine labels accessible by adding Braille and have contributed 10% of their Christmas wine sales to charity since 2009.

Write a reviewWe had a lovely afternoon at Vinhos Norte learning about the company's history and production methods, and about vinho verde in general. Celine was very knowledgeable and chatted to us about all aspects of the production process and the local area. We had our 16 year old daughter with us and Celine made her feel part of the whole afternoon - our daughter really enjoyed it. The wine itself was delicious - we tried two white and one rose. Unfortunately the company does not export to the UK any more so we are not able to buy the wine at home. Would definitely recommend this wine tasting experience.

We found the visit extremely informative and interesting. The staff were very friendly and we thoroughly enjoyed our time at the winery, especially the wine tasting!

Fundada em 1971 é uma empresa de cariz familiar que procura aliar a tradição de fazer vinho com a inovação no sector, faz este ano 50 anos a produzir vinho com excelente qualidade. Empresa familiar conta já com a 3ª geração que pretende consolidar as suas marcas no mercado nacional inovando,gerindo sinergias e apostando sempre na QUALIDADE dos seus produtos. Atualmente é patrão e administrador o Sr. Joaquim Lima conjugado pelos seus filhos. Vinhos Norte está situado na EN 310 , Varzeacova, produz vinhos verdes, brancos e tintos, que incluem o vinho Cruzeiro, Tapada dos Monges, branco e tinto e Vinhão e Miogo espumante. Apresentou recentemente o vinho Loureiro e Alvarinho. Pertence Joaquim Lima e Filhos. A equipa de gerência é constituída por Joaquim Lima e filhos, Graciete Lima, Vera Lima e Vítor Lima. Tem sala de provas dos diferentes tipos de vinhos. O vinho é feita com uvas de produção própria e de uvas compradas na região. As uvas entram e são esmagadas em máquinas apropriadas e automáticas. Têm silos depósitos com grande capacidade de armazenamento e o engarrafamento e todo automático. Fizemos uma visita á adega de Vinhos Norte conduzida pelo patrão sr. Joaquim Lima que gentilmente nos explicou todos os trâmites que são feitos para produzir os vinhos Norte de grande qualidade.

I cannot recommend this experience enough. Whilst it is no longer free the experience was certainly value for money, in fact it exceeded my high expectations and surpassed other wine tasting experiences I have had. The winery tour was carried out by the head wine maker (not usual) so knowledgeable. The host (one of the owners) then shared the history of the vineyards and winery. Followed by wine tastings accompanied by food. The host was very accommodating to our vegan diet providing delicious food cooked by her friend and mother. She shared her knowledge of wines and international markets with us and nothing was too much trouble. I can honestly recommend anyone to access this experience. You will not regret it.
