Centuries of Winemaking at Weingut Hannes Sabathi

The Hannes Sabathi wine farm is present in Gamlitz in south Styria, close to the city of Gamlitz, and is run by the family since 1860. In 2005, Hannes Sabathi took over the small family operation from his parents, and since led it to the upper echelon of the Styrian winegrowing community. From the very beginning, his guiding maxim was the idea of origins. With this uncompromising attitude, he has assumed a pioneering role that has decisively moulded the development of the entire region. Hannes Sabathi is frequently called ‘the Sabathi with the roots.’ This, of course, stems from the visual appearance of the labels, but it conceals a much deeper truth. Hannes Sabathi loves the soil! In his vineyards, he has dug many holes and investigated the soils, to better understand the interaction of soil and grape variety.

The Majestic Vineyards

Their vineyards are present in an area of around 30 hectares in southern Styria and 4.5 hectares in Grazer Kehlberg. The Mediterranean Sea gives a warm and humid climate to the place, which, along with ideal soil and temperature, makes the region suitable for the cultivation of vines. The main types of grapes that grow in their vineyards include Sauvignon blanc, Gelber Muskateller, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, and Welschriesling. Their wines are divided into four categories to fit each vintage and each variety and vinification. All the wines have their own unique features, and the intense taste and aroma of the wines show the qualities of the Styrian region.
