Weingut Tschermonegg — Where the South Styrian Wine Route Reaches its Peak

Perched at the summit of the South Styrian Wine Route, Weingut Tschermonegg commands a spectacular position surrounded by 33 hectares of contiguous vineyards. Varying soil formations, altitudes, aspects, slopes, and microclimates come together here to produce wines that capture the very essence of Southern Styria. 

A family winery now in its fifth generation, Tschermonegg unites breathtaking panoramas with a deeply rooted, generational expertise in winemaking. The vines thrive at elevations of up to 600 metres on steep, sun-drenched hillsides with diverse soil types — ideal conditions for varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc, Morillon, and Gelber Muskateller. 

A remarkable natural feature defines the estate: a ridge divides the vineyards into two distinct wine municipalities. On the Gamlitz side, the water flows towards the Mur River, while on the Leutschach side it drains into the Drau towards Slovenia. The elevated vineyards sit permanently above the valley fog, yielding wines that are as clear and characterful as the view from the top. 

A state-of-the-art cellar facility allows the estate to blend long-standing tradition with the latest technical expertise. The wines express each variety with exceptional purity — layered aromas, refined acidity, and elegant restraint in alcohol — qualities that earn Tschermonegg top awards and recognition at both national and international competitions year after year, including regular appearances at the Salon Österreichischer Wein. 

Sustainability is a guiding principle at every stage. As one of the first wineries in Styria and Austria to receive sustainability certification, Tschermonegg takes responsibility for nature and the environment — from the hand-worked vineyards to the resource-efficient, hillside-integrated pressing and cellar facility. 

Alongside wines, juices, and fine brandies, the award-winning Buschenschank — a traditional Styrian tavern — delights guests with regional and seasonal specialities in a warm, authentic atmosphere.  The terrace sits in the heart of the vineyard, offering a breathtaking panoramic view over the hills of Southern Styria. 

Guests wishing to linger longer can retreat to the stylish guest rooms, complete with a rooftop infinity pool, sauna, and sun terrace — a true “living with wine” experience in the middle of the vines.  With Franz-Josef leading the cellar and Lorenz heading the tavern and hotel operations, the next generation is already shaping Tschermonegg’s future — with fresh ideas and an unwavering commitment to quality and provenance.
