Artisanal Handcrafted Austrian Wines Made Through the Use of Organic and Sustainable Farming Techniques

A Unique and Historical Site

The Herrenhof is unique, as is the Buchertberg site, which stretches south from the farm. It all began on this square - actually about 300 years ago, when the farm was still owned by the Canons of Vorau - hence the name HERRENHOF. At that time, wine was produced for the monastery on the light, weathered sandstone and silt soils.

High-Quality Styrian Wines

Today, Gottfried Lamprecht is the winemaker who started it all again. His great-grandfather originally came from southern Styria and bought the HERRENHOF in 1913 because of its very favorable location. The vineyards had been cleared in the meantime, but around 16 years ago this wine-growing project was brought back to life. This happens in a very special way: even the base wine, the Pinot Blanc, is spontaneously fermented in the entire Startin (600 liters) as it was before. Furmint was planted out over a large area, making it the only place in today's Styria where this old, high-quality grape variety from south-eastern Europe is being cultivated again. As a special "special" a traditional white mixed set (Buchertberg Weiss) is added and expanded. In addition, old and lost grape varieties were planted again.

Certified Organic Wines at Herrenhof Lamprecht

The Buchertberg is mostly a white wine country, but when it comes to red wine, the main focus is on Pinot Noir and Blaufränkisch (Buchertberg Rot). A lot of manual work is invested in the vineyards - the demands of the wines are very high. The vineyards have been certified organic since 2006. Because the vineyard is the heart of the wine, it is cultivated according to certified organic rules, without the use of synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, or pesticides.
