Crafting Exceptional Red Wines in Burgenland's Heart
Hans Igler Winery: A Legacy of Red Wine Excellence
Located in the renowned red wine region of Burgenland, Weingut Hans Igler has been a cornerstone of Austrian viticulture since the 1960s. Founded by Hans Igler, a pioneer in red winemaking, the winery specializes in the distinctive Blaufränkisch grape, which embodies the unique character of this eastern Austrian terroir.
Continuing the Family Tradition
Today, the winery is led by Waltraud Reisner-Igler, her husband Wolfgang, and their son Clemens along with his wife Anna. Together, they strive to perfect the art of Blaufränkisch. Their commitment to quality is evident in their celebrated wines, such as the “Vulcano,” which commemorates its 30th anniversary with the 2017 vintage, and the robust “Biiri,” crafted over the past 14 years. The “Ab Ericio” also stands out, reaching its 19th year with the 2017 vintage.
The winery's finest vineyards, known as Biiri, are situated 250 meters above sea level, showcasing the region's rich heritage.
Exceptional Wines with Distinctive Flavors
The unique climate and clay-rich soils of Burgenland create an ideal environment for vine cultivation. Spanning 60 hectares, the estate primarily focuses on red grape varieties, including Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt, Merlot, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, and St. Laurent. The grapes are meticulously handpicked to ensure the highest quality, resulting in wines that are rich in flavor and aroma. With extensive experience in viticulture, the winemakers at Hans Igler Winery harvest at the optimal time, allowing the wines to reflect the true essence of their region.
