Winemaking Tradition in Rust Since 1741
Paul Schandl owns the Peter Schandl Winery, the property of the Schandl family for around 276 years. His wife, Elle, and parents, Ursula and Peter, support him in the vineyards and wine cellar. In 1980, Peter brought Cabernet to Rust. During that period, Paul attended different wineries in South Africa, New Zealand, California, and many others to master his art of winemaking. Apart from historical varieties, today, Paul has dedicated his vineyards to other vines, including Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Traminer, Blaufränkisch, Merlot, and Pinot Noir.
Discover the 18th Century Town House – Schandl Tavern
Run by Ursula and her daughter, Barbara Schandl, the winery owns a stunning townhouse in the middle of the Rust wine region. The house consists of historical cross vaults and a guest garden with a cozy vine arbor. Here, the guests are entertained with unique-style wine tasting and culinary activities. The Pannonian culture inspires the wine-food pairings. The Schandl family also owns a beautiful hotel located in Rust on Lake Neusiedi, dating back to the 17th Century. It has 19 guest rooms – three junior suites, two triple family rooms, 11 double rooms, and three rooms.
