Immense Knowledge of Wines and Winemaking
Winemaking in the Family
The wine town of Röschitz is located in the western Weinviertel, south of Retz. The knowledge of pressing wine was passed on from generation to generation in the Maurer family. Leo Maurer runs the business and relies primarily on the leading variety of the Weinviertel, the Grüner Veltliner.
Lands of the Winery
Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Gelber Muskateller and Zweigelt complete the range. In the vineyard, great importance is attached to natural, environmentally friendly care in order to harvest only healthy and ripe grapes. "After all, the aroma of the grapes is the basis for expressive wines," says the cellar master. In the cellar he pays attention to the most gentle pressing and cooled fermentation, thus guaranteeing full varietal typicality.
The vineyards are located in the best locations on primary rock and loess soils, which allow particularly fruity and mineral wines to mature.
The most important grape variety is the Grüner Veltliner, which thrives in the Reipersberg and Stoitzenberg vineyards. The Grüner Veltliner Urkristall reflects the minerality of the crystalline primary rock. The richest Grüner Veltliner thrives in the Himmelreich vineyard and bears the name MLM.
Ried Hiataberg with its calcareous soil is the basis for delicately fruity wine varieties such as Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc. The south side of the Stoitzenberg, with its weathered bedrock, offers the ideal location for the elegant Rieslings of the Maurer family. The Mühlberg vineyard, which has medium-heavy soil, is almost predestined for the Sauvignon Blanc.
