A Family Tradition in Burgenland Winemaking
Wines Since 1816
Weingut Schützenhof, established in 1816, is a family-run winery located in the picturesque southern Burgenland region of Austria. While Austria is celebrated for its exquisite cuisine and stunning Alpine resorts, the winery has quietly gained recognition for producing some of the country’s finest wines. The Faulhammer family meticulously crafts each bottle, allowing the natural aging process to unfold without interference, resulting in wines that are both pure and expressive.
Award-Winning Winery Design
In 2005, Weingut Schützenhof received the Burgenland Architecture Prize for its innovative design that emphasizes functionality and transparency. The winery minimizes mechanical intervention, preserving the unique characteristics of the grapes and enhancing their aromatic profiles. The building's design harmonizes with the landscape, featuring a sloping ceiling that offers a captivating view from grape delivery to the aging process in barrique barrels, which are strategically placed for visibility.
Eisenberg DAC Region
The vineyards thrive on the slopes of Eisenberg Mountain, primarily cultivating Blaufränkisch grapes. While the elevation is modest, the terroir significantly influences the wines. The unique mineral notes arise from the region's crystallized slate, contributing to the distinct flavor profile. The wines produced here are recognized under the protected designations "Eisenberg DAC" and "Eisenberg DAC Reserve," showcasing the exceptional quality and character of this remarkable wine region.
