Willunga 100 winery: in the heart of McLaren vale
Willunga 100 is a winery in McLaren Vale, South Australia, about 45 minutes south of Adelaide. The winery focuses on growing Grenache in its vineyards, which has an amazingly diverse flavor profile that changes from vineyard to vineyard as well as throughout its life in the bottle. It was the sensitivity to place that attracted the founders to Grenache when Willunga 100 began in 2005. Despite the fact that few people took Grenache seriously at the time, Willunga 100 was dedicated to producing premium wines with a focus on Grenache that are full of character and nuance and has won multiple awards to prove their success.
Between beach and mountains
McLaren Vale is situated between the sandy beaches of the Gulf of St Vincent and the Mount Lofty Ranges. It is known as the birthplace of South Australian wine. The mild, Mediterranean climate and ancient soil are perfectly suited to growing low vigor and mature vines that produce superb, concentrated fruit. Williunga 100 produces wines from various vineyards, each a sub-zome with a unique diversity of flavors.
The gnarly old Grenache vines in McLaren Vale are the reason that Willunga 100 produces such distinct, award winning Grenache-focused red and rosé wines
