The Wimmer-Czerny Wine Estate
The family winery Wimmer-Czerny is situated in the little wine village Fels am Wagram. Several discovered documents in the area show that the Wimmer and Czerny family have been making wine and food in the house since the early 17th century. Dating their family wine tradition to over 6 generations. Today family Czerny is continuing this tradition on this house, making wine and organic food from the 15 ha of vines and 12 ha fields using biodynamic agriculture (Demeter).
A History Dating Back 10 centuries
The Wagram is an area which, according to the Passau chronicles, dates back 1000 years ago, i.e. the 11th century. When ""Wachrain"" (= wave rain) was mentioned in a document, the prehistoric traces go back much further. Sculpture in the Danube valley is the first cultural asset. Pitfalls and mammoth teeth found in the Gösing plots during reconstruction show that prehistoric mammoth hunters walked comfortably along the Wagrams dry-shod, while deeper down the arms of the Danube flowed.
Terroir of Wagram
Wines are a reflection of the terroir, The terroir of Wagram, comes from an aroma-building climate of Danubevalley which encounters a major difference of temperature between day and nights, and consists of deep sandy clay which shows its reflection in the bottled wines. The deep soils have a very good storage capacity for water, needing no artificial irrigation. It makes very balanced wines, not so hard as on a primary rock, but buffers the acidity with its minerals very good.
