Azienda Fausta Mansio, Beautiful Valley Winery in Sicily
Fausta Mansio Winery is a family-run winery with a hilly and wild landscape. The winery is present in the Anapo Valley, one of Siracusa’s most beautiful valleys and located at a great height. The region is perfect for vine cultivation because of favorable conditions, and as a result, there is a growth of high-quality grapes. The first vineyards were planted in 1999. Today, the land has almost ten hectares of vines and four hectares of olive trees. The winemakers use sustainable growing techniques to protect their vines and the environment of their region. The workers handpick the best grapes and take it to the winery for further processing.
The History of the Winery
The winery was born to restore Siracusa’s ancient and traditional production, the Moscato di Siracusa. It was one of the first Sicilian wines to obtain a D.O.C. status in 1973. Due to an economic crisis in the country, almost all farmers had to replace their vineyards with citrus orchards. The law states that a D.O.C. loses its status after no cultivation for forty years. Therefore, the Fausta Mansio winery decided to plant Moscato in the vineyard and save one of their region’s most significant traditions. The grapes grown include Nero d’Avola and Moscato Bianco. The winemakers use the best grapes to produce their high-quality red, white, and dessert wines.
Azienda Fausta Mansio Winery’s main wines include Moscato Dry, Moscato di Siracusa, and Moscato Passito, along with extra virgin olive oil.
