Balter: A Unique Underground Winery

Located in the heart of Trentino-Alto Adige, Balter Winery is surrounded by 10 hectares of lush vineyards and enclosed by a distinctive stone wall. At the center of this picturesque estate stands a castle featuring a 16th-century tower. The Balter family has owned this estate since 1872, and the winery itself is ingeniously built entirely underground, preserving the natural beauty of the landscape.

Visit This Enchanting Location

Just five minutes from the charming town of Rovereto, Balter Winery is a place where locals embrace their passion for the land. The family tends to the vineyards with care, cultivating grapes on a stunning hillside that overlooks the town below. This idyllic setting creates a warm and inviting atmosphere for visitors.

Ideal Conditions for Grape Growth

Situated at an elevation of 350 meters above sea level, the winery benefits from long, sunny days that provide perfect conditions for grape growth and maturation. In 1990, the family invested in the construction of the underground winery to protect the landscape while equipping winemakers with state-of-the-art facilities. While the winery has historically focused on red wines, it has recently expanded its offerings to include a diverse range of wines, appealing to various palates.

We were wonderfully welcomed by Agostina who, with her competence and passion, explained the history of the company to us and introduced us to the excellent wines that we had the pleasure of tasting. It's a shame that the wolfish weather didn't allow us to enjoy the view of the surrounding landscape: never mind, we'll have another reason to return to visit them Emanuela and Cristian

Went there with my boyfriend 2 days ago. The beautiful experience!!! We had the opportunity to get to know this wonderful family reality up close. Agostina was very kind and conveyed all her passion to us. Obviously there is nothing to say about the wines. We will definitely be back!!!!!

Great experience in this small company. Nicola, with his authentic, simple and special way of doing things, explains the production processes and decisions with disarming ease. It's nice to deal with someone who cares so much about the work in the land and in the cellar. The Trento was excellent but we really enjoyed the Lagrein!! Unbeatable value for money! Thank you for your availability and your passion

Agricultural company of absolute interest, located in a crenellated building that resembles a castle (even if it is not one). In fact, it seems to be a "specula" delegated in ancient times for a communication context. Going down a narrow spiral staircase you enter the suggestive "dungeons" where, in wooden pupils, there are wines whose remuage is carried out by hand. We meet the father, the owner of great kindness and culture, who, with patience and passion, delights us with the explanation of all the processes and techniques that lead to the production of his fantastic products. Without going into details, the attention is always appreciated, even for small details, which in fact translate into the pleasantness and aromas of the products tasted. A truly pleasant cellar!
