Celebrating 400 Years of Winemaking Heritage
Generational Winery Traditions
Weingut Birgit Braunstein has a rich history of 400 years in winemaking, currently led by Brigit Braunstein. After taking over her father Paul’s winery in 1995, Brigit has dedicated herself to the craft of viticulture. Today, her two sons, Felix and Max, have returned to their roots, contributing to the family legacy. Nestled in Purbach am Neusiedlersee, the estate is recognized as a historical monument, showcasing remarkable architectural heritage that visitors can appreciate.
Nature's Bounty in Winemaking
Brigit's commitment to organic viticulture reflects her respect for nature. The compost used in the vineyards primarily comes from the animal dung produced on the estate. The unique terroir, characterized by schist, limestone, and crystalline quartz from the Leitha Mountains, combined with the microclimate near Lake Neusiedl, imparts distinct minerality and natural ripeness to the wines. The cool night air from the Leitha Mountain slopes enhances the fruitiness and vitality of the wines produced at Weingut Birgit Braunstein.
A Heartfelt Approach to Biodynamics
For nearly two decades, Brigit has embraced biodynamic practices, placing a strong emphasis on the interconnectedness of plants, animals, and humans. Her passion for sustainable agriculture is evident in her membership with the Demeter Group and La Renaissance des Appellations. The winery cultivates a variety of grapes, including Chardonnay, Blaufränkisch, Pinot Blanc, Rosé, Sauvignon Blanc, Zweigelt, Merlot, and Pinot Noir, among others, contributing to the diverse offerings of the Braunstein family.
