Experience the Essence of Burgenland's Sweet Wines at Weingut Kracher
The Kracher Winery is nestled in the picturesque Seewinkel region of Austria's Burgenland. This unique area benefits from the microclimate created by Lake Neusiedl, characterized by evening fog and warm Pannonian breezes. These conditions are ideal for the development of Botrytis cinerea, the noble rot that is essential for producing exquisite sweet wines like Beerenauslese and Trockenbeerenauslese.
Each year, Alois Kracher crafted 10 to 15 distinct Trockenbeerenauslesen wines from grape varieties such as Welschriesling, Chardonnay, Traminer, Scheurebe, Muskat-Ottonel, and occasionally Zweigelt. The winery offers two unique styles of these wines.
The "Zwischen den Seen" wines are aged in large wooden barrels or steel tanks, allowing for extended yeast contact that enhances their freshness and fruit-forward character. In contrast, the Nouvelle Vague line features barrique-aged wines that showcase depth, spiciness, and a vibrant taste profile.
Alois Kracher's dedication to his craft and his innovative approach earned him numerous accolades, including the prestigious title of "Wine Maker of the Year" from a leading British wine magazine, awarded seven times. His legacy as a key ambassador for Austrian wine continues to resonate globally.
Today, Gerhard Kracher, alongside his partner Yvonne, carries on the family tradition. The winery is renowned for its exceptional Trockenbeerenauslesen, as well as Beerenauslesen, Auslesen, Eiswein (ice wine), and a select range of dry white and red wines, making it a must-visit destination for wine enthusiasts.
