Winery MAD: Commitment to quality and character
Winery MAD in Burgenland, Austria is a winery owned and run by the Marienberg family. It is located in Oggau, the western shore of Lake Neusiedler. The guiding philosophy of the family owned vineyard is a commitment to quality and producing wines with a character and depth.
The winery was established in 1786 on 50-hectares. Since then, the family devoted itself to viticulture and perfecting their growing and production.
In 2018, Sebastian and Tobias Siess, brothers and eighth generation winegrowers, took over the winery with a promise to continue producing high-quality wines that reflect the unique characteristics of the terroir
Located in the Leithaberg DAC
Weingut MAD falls under the Leithaberg DAC. It is characterized by the Leitha Mountains which bring cool nights and Lake Neusiedl which provides warm winds during the day. It is one of the oldest wines growing regions in the world and produces wines with particular characteristics due to the climate and soil conditions.
Winemaking is a living process
The vineyards at Weingut MAD produce many different grape varieties, including Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt, Welschriesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Grüner Veltliner, Merlot, St. Laurent, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon. From this they produce red wines, white wines, rosé, sparkling and dessert wines. All the wines are typical of the region and have a taste that is mineral and elegant. The Siess brothers are dedicated to the idea that winemaking is a living process, it needs to be allowed to change and mature, and their products reflect this with a touch of traditional and modern characteristics.
