Producing award-winning wines from the 120 years old grape plants.

Bodegas Calvente Winery – Situated in Sierra del Chaparral

Bodegas Calvente Winery is situated in Sierra del Chaparral, between the Mediterranean Coast and Sierra Nevada. Bodegas Calvente Winery enjoys a very suitable location as its high altitude gives their vineyards a continental microclimate with strong maritime influence. The vines are embedded in slopes of clay-limestone soil, with steep hills and low production per hectare.

The age of some vineyards at Bodegas Calvente Winery range between 20 and 90 years old providing much depth and richness in the wines produced.

Grapes Grown at the Winery Include Moscatel, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah

For 20 years, the Bodegas Calvente Winery has been producing fine wines. With great respect for Mother Nature, the owner grows a broad range of vines. This includes top-class Moscatel, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah, combined with fruity Merlot, Petit Verdot, Tempranillo, and Chardonnay. The grapevines range in age from 50 to 90 years old, and some younger vines are 20 and 40 years old, providing much depth and richness in the wines produced. Bodegas Calvente Winery produces excellent red and white wines, paired with high-quality rosé and sparkling wines, all under the Granada DO status. All winemaking phases, including harvesting and pressing, are done manually, and only the best bunches are chosen for further processing. Bodegas Calvente Winery combines traditional and innovative methods in their wine cellar.

Yields are Kept Low, at 5000 Kg per Hectare for Better Quality of Vines

The estate is nestled in the southern slope of the Sierra de Almijara, on the provincial border of Granada and Malaga. Bodegas Calvente Winery enjoys a perfect microclimate and terroir for the production of their highest quality yield. The density of plantation is 2900 vines per hectare, the varieties grown exclusively are Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo, and Merlot. Tillage in the vineyards is done traditionally, obtaining very low yields, 5000 kg per hectare.

The experience was fantastic

I would rate it 9 out of 10. The experience was fantastic. Whilst you don't get to view the actual vineyards and the cellars are small (in comparision to other vineyard tours), it is incredible the volumes they produce from such a compact winery. The fact that their business has grown so quickly can be attributed to the passion and knowledge held within the family business. We tasted 1 sparkling, 2 white and 2 red wines (along with a selection of traditional tapas. At the end of the tour there is the opportunity to buy all of their wines at a reduced price. All in all a fantastic afternoon and I would highly recommend it.
