Passion Rooted in Tradition

Located in Elciego, the heart of Rioja wine country, Bodegas Valdelana is a family-owned winery with a rich history dating back to 1583. Recognized for its excellence in wine tourism, particularly in art and culture, the Valdelana family has been crafting wines for fourteen generations. This winery beautifully illustrates how honoring one’s heritage can shape both the present and future.

Where Tradition Meets Innovation

Judit and Juan Valdelana represent the latest generation dedicated to blending traditional winemaking techniques with modern practices. Their commitment has allowed them to cater to a global clientele, distributing wines under four distinct brands: Familia Valdelana, Barón Ladrón de Guevara, AGNUS, and Duquesa de la Victoria, reaching over twenty countries. In addition to wine production, the winery features a wine museum and accommodations, inviting visitors to stay and learn more about the world of wine.

The Heart of Quality Wines

The vineyards of Bodegas Valdelana are situated in Rioja Alavesa, a subregion known for its unique climate and soil conditions. The clay-limestone soil, combined with the protective Sierra de Cantabria mountains, creates an ideal environment for growing high-quality grapes. The primary grape variety cultivated here is Tempranillo, making up 80% of the vineyard, alongside other varieties such as Viura, Malvasía, Mazuelo, and Graciano. This careful cultivation results in wines that reflect the essence of the region.

Highly recommended accommodation and especially for the visit to the winery museum. It is a slightly different visit to the typical visit to a winery and is therefore recommended if you want to learn more about wine culture. Our guide on the visit was Patricia, a delight. We really enjoyed the tasting, some very tasty wines. We recommend everything: accommodation, visit, tasting and purchase of the wines.

We were there in January. An unforgettable experience. Located at the crossroads of Elciego. Perfectly situated at its feet. They had several unexpected details with us: they gave us a superior category room. They also gave us a free visit to their museum, which is very well kept, and with Maria's explanations it became an unexpected treasure. The room was very cozy. The breakfast was very good. A pleasure. I do think that we should be warned that the rooms are on the second floor and you have to go up the stairs. Nothing out of the ordinary, but it may be limiting for someone.

Very well located, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The visit to the bodega/museum was very interesting and different from other wineries. However, the noise in the rooms can be heard through the walls, and you can hear the neighbors and those above you. The breakfast quality is okay, but nothing special.
