Bodegas Riojanas stands as one of the 13 centenary wineries in the Rioja region, showcasing a rich history of winemaking that spans over 125 years. Founded in 1890 by the Artacho family, this winery reflects a deep passion for wine, evident in every aspect of its operations. Visitors are greeted by a historic stone door from 1799, which marks the entrance to the family vineyards. In 2005, the winery underwent a significant renovation, blending traditional winemaking methods with modern technology and innovative techniques. The knowledgeable staff at Bodegas Riojanas is dedicated to crafting exceptional wines that resonate with both local and international wine lovers.
Bodegas Riojanas manages nearly 100 hectares of vineyards located in prime areas such as San Vicente de la Sonsierra and Cenicero. The region's clay-limestone soil and unique microclimate create ideal conditions for grape cultivation. The primary grape varieties grown here include Tempranillo, Mazuelo, and Graciano, which are used to produce award-winning red, white, and dessert wines. The grapes are carefully handpicked and transported in small boxes to ensure quality. After fermentation, the wines are aged in oak barrels to develop their distinct flavors and structure. The winery offers three main wine categories: Crianza, Reserva, and Gran Reserva, each showcasing the unique characteristics of the Rioja region.

A visit and a very different, great winery! It is a marriage between modernity and old tradition. Don't be confused, Rioja wineries are not a conglomeration of wineries in the region, this is a single house that produces Viña Albina, Puerta Vieja and Monte Real, my favorite, among others. . The visit is very different from other wineries and in addition to tasting, texture and smell also play a role, which is highly recommended. Santiago is a great host and he not only expands his wine knowledge but makes the visit very enjoyable and interactive.

A very good tour, a bit rushed for my taste; we didn't understand some concepts. I missed visiting the vineyards and understanding the grape varieties. But the rest was great. The aroma experience was wonderful, and the wines were very good. Recommended if you've already visited vineyards.
