Journey to Become the Best

Preserving the winemaking tradition for over four generations, the Montalto Winery has seen many ups and downs in the wine industry. Nicolò Montalto started the family business, which went from one generation to another, keeping the glorious past of wine production alive. Today, Antonio Montalto takes care of all the cellar processes, acquired from his father, Enzo Montalto. Antonio started his oenologist journey in the 80s, and since then, he is continually striving for business excellence.

Owned by the Family Since 1884

Since 1884, the Montalto family has been taking care of the vineyards and olive trees. The family grows various types of vines, including unique Grillo, Nero D’avola, and Perricone, along with fruity Insolia and Catarratto. These grapes are manually picked, and selected bunches are processed in the wine cellar, followed by soft pressing.

Inside the wine cellar, one can witness Slavonian oak barrels where the flagship Marsala, along with other wines, is kept for refined ageing. Besides the wine cellar, there exist concrete tanks that reveal the industrial oenological archeology. For the pressing of grapes and olives, traditional presses are used. During your time in Baglio, don’t forget to explore the eno-museum, where one can discover ancient viticulture equipment and peasant life.
