Premium Wines with Centuries-Old Stories

Set against the stunning backdrop of Sicily's Baglio Wine Region, Cantine Montalto is a family-owned winery surrounded by lush olive groves and vineyards. This estate is renowned for its high-quality wines, including IGP and DOP varieties, as well as exceptional extra virgin olive oil. Each bottle tells a story steeped in tradition, making it a must-visit for both wine enthusiasts and casual drinkers alike.

A Legacy of Winemaking

For over four generations, the Montalto family has dedicated themselves to the art of winemaking. Founded by Nicolò Montalto, the winery has weathered the challenges of the industry while preserving its rich heritage. Today, Antonio Montalto oversees the cellar operations, applying the knowledge he gained from his father, Enzo Montalto. Since beginning his oenology career in the 1980s, Antonio has been committed to maintaining the winery's reputation for excellence.

Family-Owned Since 1884

Since 1884, the Montalto family has nurtured their vineyards and olive trees, cultivating a variety of grapes such as Grillo, Nero D’Avola, and Perricone, along with fruity Insolia and Catarratto. The grapes are handpicked, ensuring only the finest bunches are selected for processing in the winery. Inside the cellar, you will find Slavonian oak barrels where the flagship Marsala and other wines undergo careful aging. The winery also features traditional presses for both grapes and olives, showcasing the blend of modern and historical techniques. Don't miss the eno-museum, where you can learn about ancient viticulture tools and the traditional peasant lifestyle that shaped Sicilian winemaking.

We came across this winery by chance 4 years ago and unfortunately I didn't remember the name. I finally recognized her and can keep my promise by leaving a great review! We were welcomed by the owner and his wife as if we were family. The tasting was excellent but the passion in describing each wine was unique! I highly recommend!

A wonderful place, where the family tradition is immediately perceived. The fourth generation is represented by Mr. Montalto. The dedication is immediately clear. A sartorial wine, as he defines it. we truly appreciated his availability and the kindness of his wife, Mrs. Dora. I can only say Thank you for everything.

What a fantastic welcome by Dora and Antonio. All registers are opened. What a passion and love for (family) history you will find here. Wine tasting with a capital M from Marsala. Got to taste 3 wines with some bruschetta. And then the Marsala… later even a personal Marsala of 30 years old, almost Grappa-like. Ottimo was able to taste red, now “experimental” Marsala that is 2 years old. Sweet, so tasty and to think that only 9 houses in the world are allowed to bear this protected name, controlled by strict law. Enjoy and of course buy a bottle. You have to celebrate parties. Mille Grazie ❤️

Antonio and Dora welcomed us with cordiality and professionalism, accompanying us on this journey back in time to the heart of Sicilian peasant culture. So much history and so much passion for these magnificent lands. Excellent tasting impeccably contextualised. It's worth stopping by after a phone call.

We went directly yesterday with destination Montalto wineries from Syracuse having seen that it was one of the few open on Saturdays. Even without having booked we were welcomed by the owners without problems. They offered us a tasting of their wonderful wines with a subscription and they also explained the history and best pairings to each wine. We were especially amazed by the nero d'Avola and the table zibibbo. But the virgin Marsala and the Passito are also phenomenal... In fact we have taken away some supplies and will certainly be ordering online. The owners are very kind and helpful, truly nice people. It is definitely a place worth visiting, even if you are not a wine lover.
