Celler La Muntanya: A Leader in Sustainable Winemaking

Founded in 2004 by Toni Boronat and Juan Cascant, Celler La Muntanya is a small winery located in Muro d’Alcoy, Alicante. Collaborating with Adrià Pérez Ovejero and Marc Pérez Pérez, the winery partners with over 25 smallholdings in the central regions of l’Alcoià, Comtat, and Vall d’Albaida. Nestled in the mountains of southern Valencia and northern Alicante, Celler La Muntanya is dedicated to producing high-quality wines that reflect the unique terroir and biodiversity of the area. The vineyard features vines aged between 5 and 80 years, thriving at an average altitude of 550 meters.

Vineyard management is conducted manually and with a strong commitment to environmental biodiversity.

Restoring and Replanting Native Vineyards

Celler La Muntanya is at the forefront of the smallholder movement, focusing on restoring abandoned vineyards and replanting native varieties. The winery ensures fair compensation for local producers, promoting a culture that values the land and its heritage. Although not part of any Denominación de Origen (DO), Celler La Muntanya is recognized for its varietal wines and is affiliated with the Slow Food Valencia movement.

A Unique Approach to Winemaking

At Celler La Muntanya, grapes undergo micro vinification, allowing for precise control over the winemaking process. Fermentation occurs using the grapes' natural yeasts, with minimal intervention to maintain the wine's authenticity. Aging takes place in French oak vats and barrels of varying sizes and ages, ensuring a gentle treatment of the wine.

Had a tour here yesterday and then a wine tasting. We are extremely impressed with how much passion is expressed about the entire process. All steps are told honestly. The wines are just as honest! They are really very good and a real pleasure to experience a wine tasting here. Muchas Gracias!

Excellent site to learn about wines and their process. Rafa treated us great, he is very professional and friendly, he made us feel at home. We would do the wine tasting again without a doubt. You can buy their wines and other artisan products at a good price.

It is a winery where the production of its wines comes from small estates, studied and treated to extract their most native flavors from their vineyards. A pleasure to walk through their vineyards while they tell you the history of each one, the treatment was spectacular.
