Just by the Italian border in the eastern edge of Slovenia lies Čotova Klet, a welcoming family winery in the higher valley altitudes of Kras. This is a friendly winery estate that welcomes everyone, and the familiar energy embraces the estate since both parents and children help with the winery’s tasks.

Unique Local Grapes and Classic Gems

The most unique attribute of Čotova Klet is that the winery mostly produces wines from regional grapes that are nowhere else to be found, and this is what truly makes the winery stand out from others. Although they have more commonly used grapes as well such as Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, the stars of the estate are Refošk, Vitovska, and Malvazija. However, all the wines are blessed with rich soil and the advantageous microclimate that sweeps over the area, thanks to its location by the Mediterranean and hilly proximity at the same time.

Selected Teran PTP

Čotova Klet produces an elegant and sophisticated range of delicious wines, but the winery’s maybe most distinguished wine is Izbrani Teran, a Selected Teran PTP wine that is grown on karst soil that is rich in both minerals and iron. This means that it has a fruity flavor and an intense red color thanks to its anthocyanins. This type of flavonoid is beneficial for health since it has been proven that it prevents the development of cardiovascular diseases. This happens because the anthocyanins inhibit the development of atherosclerosis, and lower the harmful cholesterol LDL in the blood.
