Terroir at Domaine l’Ancienne École

Domaine l’Ancienne École is a wonderful place to produce delicious wines. The Domaine, located in the northeast of Provence, benefits from the meeting of a cool terroir and a warm geography. The altitude of our vines (400m) and the influence of the Pre-Alps cool the nights which allows the grapes to ripen slowly: the balance that arises from this encounter is characteristic of the wines of Vinsobres and our wines. These cool nights also contribute to the deep color of our red wines.

Domaine l’Ancienne École Grape Varieties

We have 13 ha of vines in two grape varieties: Grenache Noire and Syrah. We also have three hectares of woods and land, reservoirs of wild species where auxiliaries proliferate. The soil is a mixture of marl and limestone with, in places, a lot of pebbles. In the plots where the Vinsobres come from, there is also red sand in the mix.

Organic Farming at Domaine l’Ancienne École Winery

We cultivate this privileged terroir in organic farming and the natural grassing favors native plants and creates habitat for beneficial insects and other fauna. Their presence allowed us to reduce phytopharmaceutical inputs to a minimum.
