Rich Historical Background

Domaine de la Bouvaude is located in Rousset Les Vignes, a region with a storied past. Since 1969, under the stewardship of Alain Blachon, it has been part of the esteemed AOC Cotes du Rhônes Villages Rousset Les Vignes. This area has been a center of trade since ancient times, with artifacts from the Gauls and Ancient Greeks unearthed in its fertile soils. The 11th-century Benedictine monks were the first to plant vines on these sandstone slopes, confirming the region's suitability for viticulture as noted in a 15th-century land survey.

Prime Location

Situated at the northern edge of the Southern Cotes du Rhone region, Domaine de la Bouvaude enjoys a unique position between the renowned Châteauneuf-du-Pape to the south and the esteemed Côte-Rôtie to the north. The estate's altitude and diverse terroir create optimal conditions for winemaking, contributing to its classification as one of the 21 villages in the prestigious Cotes Du Rhone Villages.

Exceptional Terroir

Alain Blachon's expertise in geology has guided the selection of the ideal terroir for cultivation. The vineyard sits on ancient sandstone, formed over 20 million years ago, enriched by clay and limestone from the nearby Rhône River. The surrounding Alps provide altitude and protection from harsh weather, ensuring a balanced climate for the vines. The light, infertile soils require the vines to work harder for nutrients, resulting in lower yields but higher quality grapes. The ripple marks visible at the vineyard's edge serve as a reminder of the ancient Mediterranean Sea that once covered this land.

Dedicated Team

Since 1930, the Barnaud family has expertly managed the vineyard, with Alain Blachon now leading the way. His background in Earth Science and IT, combined with his passion for winemaking, has set the stage for exciting developments. Plans for the future include organic certification (BIO ecocert) and HVE 3, a new winery by 2022, and the introduction of Viognier and Ugni Blanc grape varieties. Alain's commitment to sustainable practices will also see the implementation of new machinery and techniques to minimize chemical treatments.

A unique, atypical, magical, magical experience 🤩😍 A bright idea from its Grenoble designer and a well-regulated organization. A night stroll on a 2 km route, through the vineyard, cleverly lit. To this show which will amaze you, are added stories, that of the estate and many other legends, told thanks to an audio guide which allows you to enjoy, at your own pace, the show and to learn lots of enriching things. A fun, educational and even ecological itinerary. Before the walk, a small aperitif to discover the production in a very friendly way, and the possibility of tasting a gourmet basket on site, filled with local specialties, homemade terrines, tapenade, goat cheese, accompanied by sliced bread and a cake. Note that this snack is hearty and intended for two people. To finish, a small tasting and sale at reduced prices of white, rosé or red wines. A relaxed and warm welcome, an invitation to travel into the imagination, to meet fairies and witches, volcanoes and restaurants. A place to absolutely visit for a small fee and an unforgettable evening 🤩

For the third year in a row, we made this evening walk in the Bouvaude vineyard and it remains a magical moment. This year, some innovations on the route and the offer of picnic baskets accompanied by a glass of Bouvaude wine were very much appreciated. Imagine this timeless moment when the sun sets behind the vines...
