Pre-phylloxera vines of Emanuele Scammacca del Murgo
The Emanuele Scammacca del Murgo wine estate is on the eastern slopes of Mount Etna, 500 meters above sea level, in a panoramic and beautiful setting. Etna is one of the limited areas of the world that has pre-phylloxera vineyards that survived the deadly plague of the 19th-century. The rich terroir allows them to grow special, fruity, high-quality grapes for their wines. Emanuele Scammacca del Murgo transformed the old property into a productive wine and agricultural estate. His sons joined him in the future, along with other members of their family.
Great terroir for viticulture
The volcanic soil around Mount Etna has an intense minerality, which is different from other Italian regions. The soil and other conditions allow them to create complex and elegant wines. The work in the vineyards is done with natural, organic techniques that have a minimal effect on the environment and help preserve the health of their old vineyards. They own 24.5 hectares of vineyards and grow grapes with a pure passion for their wines.
The winery makes natural, elegant wines
The typical grapes grown here are the DOC Etna varietals: Catarratto, Caricante, and Nerello Mascalese. Apart from the local grapes, some French varieties are also grown in the vineyards. The grapes are handpicked and used to make quality Sicilian red, white, rose, and sparkling wines. The sparkling wine made with Nerello Mascalese is one of their best products. Plan a visit to the estate to enjoy wines amidst nature’s beauty.
