Cantina Fabrizio Battaglino is a quintessential family-run estate located in Vezza d’Alba, within the heart of Italy’s Roero region. Established in the 1960s by Fabrizio’s grandfather, Riccardo, the winery has spent three generations perfecting the expression of its unique terroir. Today, Fabrizio manages the 5-hectare estate with a philosophy that balances traditional viticulture with modern sustainability, such as utilizing solar energy and eliminating herbicides.

The vineyards are situated on the steep Colla and Montebello hills, where the limestone-sandy soil produces wines of exceptional elegance and aromatic intensity. Due to the dramatic gradients of these slopes, much of the maintenance and harvesting must be performed manually. The winery produces approximately 25,000 bottles annually, with a primary focus on the region’s signature grapes. Notable offerings include the Roero Arneis, known for its floral freshness, and the Roero DOCG, a structured Nebbiolo aged in barriques.

For visitors, the estate offers an intimate experience often hosted by Fabrizio himself. Beyond standard tastings, guests can enjoy vineyard picnics or explore the newly planted truffle woods. This dedication to both the land and the guest experience makes it a standout representative of the Piedmontese winemaking tradition.

We visited and tasted at this family-run winery. It was exactly the experience you imagine when you dream of spending a few days surrounded by wine, the countryside, and the people: simply wonderful. The winery belongs to the Independent Wineries network and cultivates around 6 hectares of vineyards in three typical Roero areas. They produce nine wines: four whites, four reds, and one rosé – all with character and masterful craftsmanship (these are not mass-produced wines, but unique in taste, aroma, color, and body). We tasted all the wines together with cheese, salami, and the ubiquitous Piedmontese breadsticks. We learned about the characteristics and history of each wine and discussed possible pairings and variations. In short, you understood that this winery is worth a visit to fully appreciate the unique qualities of its wines and the passion that drives them. Congratulations!

An intimate tasting, led directly by Fabrizio, in his modern family winery. He was friendly, approachable, and willing to answer any questions we had. The wines had an intense and spicy character; I especially loved the Arneis Riserva Bastìa. The prices were more than reasonable, both for the tasting (including breadsticks, cheeses, and charcuterie) and for purchasing bottles. Highly recommended! P.S.: Be careful with Waze, as it might mistakenly direct you to the parallel road; it's better to use Google Maps.

A wonderful experience! Fabrizio gave us a warm welcome. We toured the wine cellars, chose a wine from the wide selection, and enjoyed a picnic in the vineyard. A beautiful location and a heartfelt welcome. Everything was organized with care and attention to detail. We highly recommend it to anyone looking for a special experience.
