Hamacher Winery: Just Minutes from Portland

Located a short drive from Portland, Hamacher Wines has been a staple of Oregon's wine scene since 1995. Founded by Eric Hamacher, whose passion for wine blossomed during his time working in restaurants, the winery reflects his journey from aspiring doctor to winemaker. With a degree in fermentation sciences from UC Davis, Eric honed his skills at renowned wineries in California, including Mondavi and Etude, before settling in Oregon.

Artisanal Winemaking at Carlton Winemakers Studio

In 2002, Eric, along with his wife Luisa Ponzi and partners Ned and Kirsten Lumpkin, established Carlton Winemakers Studio. This innovative facility allows multiple wineries to share resources and expertise, fostering a community of small, high-quality producers. Eric's advocacy for changes in Oregon's winery licensing laws paved the way for this collaborative approach, making it a unique destination for wine lovers.

Beautiful vineyard real close to town, lovely lawn and patio setting outdoors and tasting room inside. Great staff, super friendly and available to assist. Will definitely be back to enjoy the views and pleasant array of wines to taste (a few whites and plenty of reds). The white Pinot noir was our favorite and took home a bottle to enjoy into the eve!

Fantastic winery! Really beautiful tasting room and outdoor space. The wine flight was reasonably priced and the wine was delicious!! They don't have a kitchen but they have a super fun charcuterie vending machine. You can pick exactly what you want and the super friendly staff will take it and present it beautifully for you on a board. We will definitely be back!

This beautiful winery is a hidden gem! If you are looking for a vineyard that tastes older vintages ( think 2014 to 2018) look no further! Their winemaker takes care in the aging process and you reap the benefits as a patron. The wines are beautiful, aromatic and the atmosphere is cozy and intimate.

Andrew, at the tasting room, was super helpful, friendly and let us down the paths of both both tastings that were offered. The story behind Hammacher is so fun. It's kind of like a boutique version of Ponzi, which is close by and shares the same origin story. The H chardonnay was super intriguing, with flavors and characters that I would not automatically associate with chardonnay. It turns out these characteristics are not uncommon in Oregon chardonnay. Oaky in the nose, lightly oaky on the palate, which is always intriguing to me. The 2014 Hammacher pinot noir is lots of fun with tobacco, leather, dark plum, and 3 or 4 other flavors that I never quite identified. This will require more study. Definitely leaving with 2015 Belize Vineyard Eola, Amity Hills, and the 2014 previously mentioned. Thank you so much for your hospitality and guidance, Andrew.
