Oakway Estate: Crafting Moments into Memories

Founded in 1997 by the Hammond family, Oakway Estate is a family-owned winery nestled on Farley Road in Paynedale, within the renowned Geographe wine region of Western Australia. Located near Bunbury and Busselton, this picturesque estate spans 100 acres, featuring a winery, cellar door, vineyard, sustainable blue gum tree plantation, and a small herd of beef cattle. Three generations of the Hammond family have dedicated their efforts to creating exceptional wines that reflect the unique terroir of the region.

Since releasing its first vintage in 1997, Oakway Estate has consistently produced premium wines that showcase the best of Western Australia.

Vineyard and Grape Varieties

Overlooking the vineyard and the Capel River, Oakway Estate benefits from light gravel and loam soils that ensure excellent drainage. The vineyard enjoys ample sun exposure, which helps mitigate frost risks. The estate primarily cultivates Shiraz, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Nero D’Avola, Malbec, Sauvignon Blanc, Vermentino, and Chardonnay. The gently rolling slopes and Mediterranean climate create ideal growing conditions, resulting in a dynamic landscape that changes with the seasons.

Amazing spot! Couldn’t recommend more. The wine tasting was the best I’ve done. Never before have I had someone so incredibly knowledgable and passionate about their wines. And the passion translates into an incomparable quality. My partner and I expected to have a nice lunch and to try a few wines, and instead we walked out with 6 bottles of wine and full bellies. Hidden gem that you need to stop at.

We had an excellent wine tasting. All the wines we tried were extremely good and tasted excellent. The gentleman described each wine and its production in detail. We had plenty of time to enjoy the wines. Highly recommended!!

Had a lovely visit for lunch with wine tasting and a beer brewed on site. Fabulous wines, delightful venue and hosts, definitely worth a visit. We will be back when we return to the region next year.

Oakway Estate is a boutique winery that is a hidden gem. The vineyards are only 5 acres in size but contain 9 varieties of wine grapes. A wine tasting for $4 will allow you to taste your way through the broad selection of French and Italian style white and red wines. Done with lunch it is a wonderful experience. There is indoor and outdoor seating in the moderately sized facility and the service is personal and friendly. It is a family affair and attention to detail is evident. They also have a nano brewery on site and make three refreshing brews that can also be sampled for $4. If you purchase some wine as we did the wine tasting fee is debated against your purchase. A number of their wines have won awards.

What a gem of a winery! Absolutely stunning wines - particularly their Vermentino and Malbec. Great friendly service (thanks Ria) and yummy pizzas! My husband also enjoyed the selection of craft beers. This is a wonderful winery where you can sit, relax, enjoy the views and stay all day! We recently enjoyed a rather special tour with Mr Mustang Hire - driven in style - to this lovely spot. Thanks Vince and Karen for taking us to Oakway Estate - we'll certainly be back.
