Quealy Winemakers, Planting Pinot Grigio For The First Time In Australian Soil

Kathleen Quealy and Kevin McCarthy established Quealy winemakers in 1982 and are among the early waves of winemakers on the Mornington Peninsula. Challenging the region, the duo planted Pinot Gris/Grigio and achieved great success with improvement and diversification in site selection, viticulture, and winemaking techniques. The entire vineyard is located on a gentle north-facing slope with shallow loams over sticky clay.

The winery focuses on organic matter to enhance soil capabilities.

Introduction Of The Second Generation

Quealy winemakers hold a long tradition and experience in winemaking. The winery is joined by Tom McCarthy, the eldest son the Kathleen and Kevin, starting to make his mark as chief winemaker since 2011. Equipped with a prestigious degree in agriculture science and vintages in Collio and Burgundy under his belt, Tom has progressively taken on more and more responsibility. The future of the Quealy winemakers is promising with high-quality wines and recognition in the international market.

Stepping Into Organic World Of Viticulture

Quealy winemakers have certified organic estate vineyards and are managed by Lucas Blanck. Even the leased vineyards are moving towards 100% organic management. The whole idea is to produce single terroir wines and for that, the winery adapts minimal intervention and nature does its best. The Quealy name is synonymous with Pinot Grigio in Australia, recognized for poise, finesse, and distinction on the palate.
