Winemaking with utmost care
In 1994, when Peter and Terri Robson purchased a property on Griffin Road in Orange, the Ross Hill Wines story began. At that time there were only a few other vineyards in Orange. Twelve years later, their son James and his wife Chrissy joined the family business. Ross Hill’s 18 hectares of vines are handled with the utmost care – each vine is managed by hand, maintaining low-cropping rates that ensure their exceptional quality and flavour extend to the wines.
First certified carbon neutral winery
Ross Hill Wines has long been committed to sustainability and has introduced measures to reduce the company’s carbon footprint, such as efficient use of operational resources, decreasing tractor hours, and installing solar power. In 2016, Ross Hill Wines was recognized as the first wine company, registered with the Australian Federal Government as an NCOS certified carbon neutral winery.
The existing four temperature-controlled rooms provide the ideal spaces to turn into a barrel and wine storage rooms. The winery also had ample space for the custom-designed equipment and technology best suited to winemaking methods.
Ross Hill Wines has been the proud recipient of an exceptional rating of Five Red Stars from James Halliday’s Wine Companion since 2014

The white varietals grown including Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc and the iconic red fruit of Merlot, Shiraz, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Shiraz are also grown here. The Wallace Lane vineyard is one of the highest and coolest in Australia. This environment provides perfect conditions for varietals Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, and Pinot Noir. Hard work, passion, and dedication continue to be the key themes of Ross Hill, with the end goal remaining to produce exceptional quality and elegantly refined, cool-climate wines.
