Agricola San Ferdinando- Winery featuring a Magnificient Resort
Perched in the heart of Toscana, Agricola San Ferdinando winery is located in the winemaking region of Chiana, covering an area of 60 hectares. The old vineyards are replanted, respecting the traditions of the ancestors and recovered various ancient grape varieties of Tuscany. The estate also features a magnificent resort, consisting of two splendid farmsteads, where tourists are welcome to stay and taste wines.
Construction of the Modern Winery
With passion and dedication, the Grifoni family started the winemaking business by purchasing land in 1998. A few years later, in 2009, a modern winery was constructed within the old company to achieve great winemaking goals. On the 10 hectares of vineyard land, the present owner grows various indigenous and international vine varieties, including Vermentino (white grape), Ciliegiolo, and Sangiovese. Some areas are dedicated to a top-class red grape that is Pugnitello. The farming activities are usually manual, such as hoeing, picking, etc., whereas topping is done with tractors.
With great respect for the environment and under the supervision of the qualified staff, no chemicals and pesticides are used in the cultivation processes.
Grapes and their Processing
After ripening season, the handpicked grapes are conferred in the cellar, where timed fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, equipped with temperature control devices. The wine cellar has undergone various advancements to enhance the quality of red and white wines, made under certified DOCG and IGT labels. For maturation of wines, a dedicated space is provided, known as barrique cellar, where the gems are kept large French oak barrels.
