Santalba- Family-Owned Organic Winery in the heart of the Rioja Alta
Santalba is a family-owned organic winery in the heart of the Rioja Alta, Spain. You can discover the history and roots of wine in Rioja at Santalba. The passion for the land and the creation of quality wines and the dedication of a family over generations owes to the production of excellent wines in the D.O. Ca. Rioja since 1964.
Launching of the New Project
Santalba, the name of this winery, comes from the union of the name and surname of its owner and founder, Santiago Ijalba. With his accumulated experience since 1964 in the elaboration and aging of great Rioja wines, Santiago Ijalba decided to launch his project, Bodegas SANTALBA. Since then, the winery maintains a family character and has the support of his children, Roberto and Laura Ijalba Pérez , who combine the wine tradition of the family with an international winemaking training.
Different Grape Varieties
The native Tempranillo variety is the protagonist grape cultivated in Bodegas SANTALBA concerning red varieties, but keeping the rest of Rioja, Garnacha, Graciano, and Mazuelo grapes in mind. As for the white grape varieties, they use the Viura variety and, to a lesser extent, the Malvasía riojana, both indigenous to La Rioja.
The best grapes and the experience of previous generations are the basis of the formula that gives Santalba a final product of the highest quality.
The best grapes are picked for fermentation and aging in the cellars which produce excellent red, white, rose, and sparkling wines.
