Suffoir Wines is a family-owned establishment that combines a winery, brewery, cidery, and distillery, all while honoring the local wildlife and the owners' South African roots. Located near Budj Bim National Park, just 30 minutes from Port Fairy, Suffoir is committed to sustainable practices in all its production processes. The name "Suffoir" reflects the property's heritage, featuring Suffolk sheep and Pinot Noir vines. Visitors can enjoy a range of experiences at the cellar door, including wine tastings, gin and beer paddle tastings, and cheese platters.

The Henty Wine Region

Nestled in the Henty wine region of southwest Victoria, Suffoir Wines benefits from one of the coolest climates for wine production in mainland Australia. This region is celebrated for its aromatic white wines, rich dessert wines, and robust reds. Popular grape varieties include Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot, with additional varieties like Semillon, Shiraz, Pinot Meunier, and Pinot Gris also thriving here.

Terroir of Henty Region

The Henty region's maritime climate, influenced by cool Antarctic winds, creates ideal conditions for grape growing. The warm, dry growing season features long, cool autumns, with most rainfall occurring in winter and spring. This climate allows aromatic grape varieties to retain acidity while developing complex flavors, resulting in well-balanced wines. The diverse soils in Henty, including ancient lava flows, sea beds, and alluvial sand and gravel, contribute to the unique character of the wines produced here.
