Authentic Wines from the Heart of Sicily
At Tenuta di Aglaea, our wines are a true reflection of the Etna region, capturing the essence of its unique terroir shaped by centuries of volcanic activity.
Viticulture at the Winery
Our vineyards thrive on the northern slopes of Mount Etna, at altitudes of 800-1,000 meters above sea level. The black lava soil, rich in minerals and silicates, nurtures our 60-100 year old alberello-trained Nerello Mascalese grapes. Hand-harvested in mid-October, our 4 hectares are divided into six exceptional plots, all cultivated organically. We produce six organic wines: four reds, one white, and one rosé, each showcasing the elegant character of our land.
Our small yet remarkable vineyards, including Bocca d’Orzo, Chiusa Politi, and Montelaguardia in Randazzo, along with Passo Cannon and Santo Spirito in Passopisciaro, contribute to our 3.5 hectares of production, ensuring quality in every bottle.
How it All Began
Named after Aglaea, the youngest of the Three Graces and daughter of Zeus, our winery embodies beauty and splendor. Aglaea, often seen as a messenger for Aphrodite, symbolizes the artistry and passion behind our wines.
Commitment to Nature
Since our inception, we have adhered to organic and biodynamic farming practices. In 2018, we partnered with BioAgricert to obtain official organic certification, which we achieved in January 2019. Our commitment to sustainable agriculture has been validated through rigorous testing and controls over the years.
We believe in responsible vine cultivation that respects the environment, our employees, and our consumers. We continuously seek ways to minimize waste and enhance recycling efforts. For instance, we use 100% biodegradable twine for vine tying and repurpose leftover labels. All our suppliers are ISO certified or organic, and we prioritize shipping full pallets to reduce waste. By returning non-Euro pallets to suppliers for reuse, we contribute to a more sustainable future.
