A Historic Family Winery Crafting Exceptional Zweigelt Wines
A Family Winery with Deep Roots
Weingut Thomas Leithner is nestled in Langenois, Kamp Valley, just 70 kilometers west of Vienna. This family-owned winery has a rich history dating back to 1670, with the current owner representing the 10th generation. The family has cultivated around 12 hectares of vineyards, focusing on producing full-bodied wines that age beautifully for a minimum of 10 years. Since the 2018 vintage, the winery has been certified sustainable under “fair and green” standards, emphasizing responsible practices in both vineyard management and resource consumption.
Terroir-Driven Excellence
The winery specializes in terroir-driven wines known for their storability. The region's natural conditions are ideal for growing a variety of grapes, including Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, Traminer, Chardonnay, Neuburger, Roter Veltliner, and the renowned Zweigelt. The Zweigelt wines produced here are celebrated as some of the finest red wines in Austria. Additionally, Weingut Thomas Leithner crafts small quantities of Traminer, Mantis Religiosa (a blend of Chardonnay and Neuburger), and two unique white wines, Ootheca and XII, which undergo skin maceration. All winemaking practices prioritize organic and sustainable methods, ensuring that each bottle reflects the unique qualities of its terroir.
