Beja Airport which is located 9 km northwest of Beja and is 150 km away from Lisbon, is one of the most important airports in Alentejo. Faro Airport (FAO) is the nearest international airport to Alentejo, which is about 115.4km away. If you want to travel for various wine tasting and tours in the Alentejo region, you can also go to another closest airport of Alentejo- Lisbon Airport(LIS).

Exploring the Alentejo wine region sitting in a comfy car seat helps you to get deeper cultural insights into Portugal. At first, you can start your journey by driving an hour and a half east from Lisbon to the town of Evora. Then you can continue north towards Estremoz or south to Reguengos de Monsaraz. Traveling by car is the quickest way to go for different wine tasting and tours in the Alentejo wine region.

Traveling via train is the best way to see the natural beauty of the region. It will take about 3 hours and 30 minutes from Faro to reach the wineries of the Alentejo region. This French variety forms the backbone of most red blends in Alentejo. These days, imported grape varieties like Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon are also blended for making the luscious red wines.

Aragonez is a perfect combination of vigour and elegance, fruit and spice, and has relatively low acidity.

Antão Vaz is the principal white variety of Alentejo with good acidity and tropical fruity flavor due to the proper barrel fermentation.

Being one of the hottest wine regions of Portugal, Alentejo has baking summers and cold winters. Summer is the least commendable time to visit Alentejo. During spring, the vines just starting to sprout, so you will not be welcomed by the green luscious vineyards. So the best time to visit for wine tasting and tour in Alentejo would be late May and June. You can plan your travel during the festival of harvest in September when the atmosphere is really pumped up.
