A Historic Family-Owned Winery in Victoria, Australia
Hidden Gem of Australian Wine
Best’s Wines Great Western is a hidden gem in Australia’s wine scene. Established in 1866, this family-owned winery boasts some of the oldest and rarest vines in the world. Our specialties include Shiraz, Cabernet, and Riesling, alongside small-parcel wines that you can taste and purchase at our cellar door.
Historic Cellar Door Experience
The Concongella Cellar Door, located in the original stables, is the heart of Best’s Wines. Here, you can view Henry Best’s journal, featuring entries from 1866, along with fascinating artifacts and family photos. Visitors can take a self-guided tour of the underground cellars, hand-dug in the 1870s, and see the original Nursery Block plantings, both significant parts of Australian wine history.
Exceptional Vineyards
Best’s Wines is renowned for its exceptional vineyards in Victoria’s Great Western region. We source grapes from three estates: the flagship “Concongella” at Great Western, and “Salvation Hills” and “Sugarloaf Creek,” located 10 to 13 kilometers away in Rhymney. Each vineyard offers unique grape characteristics, with vines ranging from under five years to over 150 years old. The region’s long, slow ripening period and continental climate, featuring cold winters and dry, cool summers, contribute to the quality of our wines.
