A Unique Winery in Castilla y León Known for Exceptional Mencia Wines
Bodegas Estefania – From Creamery to Winery in 1999
Bodegas Estefania, founded in 1999, is a remarkable winery located in the village of Dehesas in Ponferrada. The Frias Family transformed an old creamery into this thriving winery, which joined the MG Wines Group in 2014. The winery's flagship brand, ‘Tilenus,’ pays tribute to Teleno, the Celtic God of War, reflecting the rich Roman heritage of the Bierzo region.
The wine labels feature a Roman coin discovered in one of their vineyards, symbolizing their deep-rooted history.
40 Hectares of Century-Old Vineyards
Bodegas Estefania boasts nearly 40 hectares of century-old vineyards nestled between the Asturias, Galicia, and Leon Mountains. The stunning landscapes and natural beauty of El Bierzo enhance the winery's appeal. The region's clay soils, rich in minerals, combined with a continental climate, create ideal conditions for vine cultivation, resulting in high-quality wines.
Godello and Mencia: The Heart of Quality Wine Production
In addition to the renowned Mencia grape, Bodegas Estefania cultivates Godello, contributing to their exceptional wine portfolio. The winery's design reflects traditional Spanish architecture, with carefully controlled temperature and humidity levels. Each grape is handpicked and transported in small batches to ensure quality. The barrel room houses nearly a thousand Bordeaux French oak barrels, allowing the wines to develop their distinctive flavors and aromatic characteristics, showcasing the essence of Bierzo.
