Winemaking tradition passed on through generations
The wine making traditions at Bodegas Ismail Arroyo-Valsotillo have been passed on through many generations spanning over 400 years. The documents belonging to the winery prove that Elpido Arroyo won an award for his wine making in the Gran Concurso de Vinos Tintos y Claretes de la Ribera del Duero in 1948. This competition was held to celebrate the best red and rose wines produced in the DOC Ribera del Duero region. Along with this, the cellar also has other important documents such as a Diploma of First Class given to the Bodegas Ismail Arroyo-Valsotillo wines in 1902. One of the most wonderful historical documents of the winery if a handwritten notebook recording the taxes that the local residents paid for Bodegas Ismail Arroyo-Valsotillo wines in 1787.
Bodegas Ismail Arroyo-Valsotillo winery dates back to XVI century
The cellar of the Bodegas Ismail Arroyo-Valsotillo is situated directly underneath the winery and dates back to the XVI century. The cellar covers approximately 2000 spare meters and is carved into the rocky soil where the temperature is consistently around 12 degrees Celsius. The Bodegas Ismail Arroyo-Valsotillo is considered a pioneer of Spanish wine making and one of the founders of the DOC Ribero del Deuro in 1982.
