Founded by winemaker Xavier Iturria, Bodegas Iturria is nestled in the picturesque village of San Román de Hornija, Valladolid. After studying Enology and Viticulture in Bordeaux, Xavier moved to Spain in 1999, gaining invaluable experience at renowned wineries in Ribera del Duero, Rioja, and Toro. With a wealth of knowledge, he established his own winery, focusing on quality and tradition.

The vineyards of Bodegas Iturria thrive at an altitude of 700 meters, featuring ungrafted vines aged between 20 to 60 years.

Grape Varieties: Toro Tinta and Garnacha

The 5-hectare vineyard in Morales de Toro is characterized by its clay, lime, and sandy soils. Here, Bodegas Iturria cultivates Toro Tinta and Garnacha grapes, prioritizing sustainability by avoiding herbicides. The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully transported to the winery, where only native yeast from the vineyard is used for fermentation, enhancing the quality of their red wines.

Aging Process in French Oak Barrels

At Bodegas Iturria, red wines undergo malolactic fermentation and aging in French oak barrels, contributing to their rich flavors. The winery is part of the DO Toro designation, which has a long history of producing exceptional wines, officially recognized in Spanish Wine Law since 1987.
