The history of the Bodegas Toro Albala winery and estate dates back to 1922 when the wine grower Jose Maria Toro Albala had the idea of keeping aged wines to create a wine that pleased eve more the discerning palate. At the time this was considered a great risk because of the economic situation in Andalusia but Jose Maria Toro Albala persisted and in the end, his idea was a great success.
Today the wines produced at the Bodegas Toro Albala are considered to be some of the best in the world. The winery Toro Albala has won many awards in recognition of its excellent wines and contribution to the world of viticulture. The farm’s winemaker and enologist Antonio Sanchez who is the current owner of the winery and the founder’s nephew (José María Toro Albalá) believes that patience bears sweet fruit and in this has dedicated his life to wine making. His focus has consistently been on the growing of Pedro Ximenez grapes as if they were his own children, under the most perfect conditions to ensure their character. The efforts of Antonio Sanchez were acknowledged when the Don P.X.
Seleccion 1946 was awarded 100 points by the wine guru Robert Parker in his magazine the Wine Advocate
This occasion was seen as a turning point for the winery Toro Albala brand as it was the first time a sweet wine from Montilla-Moriles was awarded 100 points, entering into the records of Olympus Wines.
The location of the winery Toro Albala means that it forms part of the Andulusian culture of producing fino style wines, which are influenced by the terrain of the area. This terrain is rich in albarizas, which is a white chalky soil.
