70 Years of Wine Making at Cantina del Mandrolisai
The Cantina del Mandrolisai Agricultural Cooperative was founded in 1950 and the first harvest dates back to 1952. The structure brings together the members of the territory belonging to the municipalities of Sorgono and Atzara and subsequently to the members belonging to the municipalities of Meana Sardo, Ortueri, and Samugheo. The winery takes its name from the Mandrolisai region: one of the innermost parts of Sardinia and one of the most famous of the traditional wine production areas on the island.
Where Sardinians mean wine
Mandrolisai for all Sardinians means wine. It is a name that is remembered because those born in this region are special wines. They come from the high hill vineyards, next to the highest mountains of the island. The mountains are a presence that changes the climate, like the tutelary deities of the hills and vineyards, and they have a force that changes people and countries.
Thus the wines, the vineyards, and the people of Mandrolisai are different from all the others, and similar to each other because they bear the traces of the mountains in the shadow of which they are born and grow.
It is right after all because inside the wine there is everything, the mountains, the hills, our villages, and our traditions. This is why Mandrolisai is only one name, for land and for its wine, and for us who work both, that's okay.
