Located in the picturesque Kakheti region of Georgia, Chona’s Marani is a family-owned winery that embodies a rich tradition of winemaking passed down through generations. The family’s dedication to producing exceptional Georgian wines is evident in every bottle.
At Chona’s Marani, traditional winemaking techniques blend seamlessly with modern innovations, ensuring the highest quality wines that reflect the unique terroir of the region.
Handpicked Grapes from Family Vineyards
Chona’s Marani takes pride in using only grapes from their own vineyards, cultivated with bio-organic farming practices. Family members are actively involved in every aspect of vineyard management. Nestled in the Tsinandali protected area, the vineyards are situated in the village of Kurdgelauri at an elevation of approximately 550 meters. Spanning 2 hectares, the vineyards grow indigenous grape varieties such as Kakhetian, Mtsvane, Rkatsiteli, and Saperavi. The grape harvest begins at the end of September, with careful monitoring to ensure only the finest grapes are selected.
Traditional Qvevri Winemaking
Once harvested, the grapes are transported to the cellar with utmost care to maintain their quality. The crushed grapes, along with their skins, are placed in a Qvevri, a traditional clay vessel that has been used for over 8,000 years. The unique properties of the clay, combined with Georgia's climate, impart distinctive flavors to the wines. Chona’s Marani produces a variety of wines, including Rkatsiteli Amber Dry, Kakhetian Mtsvane Amber Dry, Kisi Amber Dry, and Saperavi Red Dry, each showcasing the rich heritage of Georgian winemaking.
