Chona’s Marani winery: in the heart of Kakheti
Chona’s Marani is a winery situated in the beautiful Kakheti in Georgia. The winery is a family run business and the passion for Georgian wine has been passed through many generations.
The wine making principles at Chona’s Marani are based on traditional technology paired with modern innovations in order to produce the highest quality Georgian wines.
Only the best grapes are taken
The wines produced at Chona’s Marani are made using only the family’s own grapes produced in their own vineyards. These vineyards are worked and maintained using only bio organic farming and viticulture principles and all of the work on the winery is conducted only by family members. The vineyards of Chona’s Marani are located in the Tsinandali protected area in the village of Kurdgelauri at approximately 550m above sea level. The area of the vineyards covers 2 hectares of land. The varieties of vines that are grown on the land are Kakhetian, Mtsvane, Rkatsiteli and Saperavi. In the vineyards of Chona’s Marani, the vintage begins at the end of September, and just before this, the maturity level of the grape is checked so that only the best grapes are selected to be picked.
Wines produced in Qvevris
The picked grapes are taken from the vineyard to the cellar in a manner that constantly preserves their integrity. After that, the crushed grapes pours with grape’s skin into a clay pod called Qvevri. The Qvevri is a unique vessel made of potted clay with a history of 8 thousand years. Its clay minerals, chemical composition, and the climate and location of Georgia mean that this gives Georgian wines a unique taste and flavour. Today, the winery produces following wines: Rkatsiteli – Amber Dry; Kakhetian Mtsvane – Amber Dry; Kisi – Amber Dry; Kisi&Mtsvane Blanc – Amber Dry; Mtsvane&Rkatsiteli Blend – Amber Dry; Chinuri&Rkatsiteli Blend – Amber Dry; Saperavi – Red Dry.
