Crafting Exceptional Wines with Respect for the Loire Valley's Natural Heritage
A Legacy of Winemaking
Clos Roussely is a family-owned vineyard in the picturesque Chenonceaux region, where Vincent Roussely represents the fourth generation of winemakers. Spanning 8 hectares along the Cher River, this vineyard has been nurtured since 2007 using a blend of hand, machine, and horse farming techniques. These methods have significantly enhanced the health of the vineyards and the quality of the grapes, resulting in wines that reflect the unique terroir of the Loire Valley.
Ideal Vineyard Conditions
The vineyard primarily features Sauvignon Blanc, thriving in a rich soil composition of clay and limestone, with pockets of Silex found in the oldest sections, some of which are over 80 years old. This diverse soil profile contributes to the complexity and character of the cuvée Chenonceaux, showcasing the region's distinct flavors.
A Unique Wine Cellar
At Clos Roussely, the wine cellar is a remarkable underground space, carved from tuffeau stone and used for vinification for over 250 years. Recently, modern stainless steel fermentation tanks have been integrated into the soft stone recesses, allowing for a spontaneous and naturally slow fermentation process. This traditional yet innovative approach ensures that each bottle of wine captures the essence of the Loire Valley.
