The Vision

At Digenakis Winery, we cherish the deep connection between people and nature. Nestled in a region blessed with a mild climate and nutrient-rich soil, we cultivate our grapes in the mountainous areas of Crete. By focusing on low yields, we ensure the highest quality. Our local grape varieties are artfully blended with international ones, resulting in unique wines. Through meticulous vinification and aging in oak barrels, we honor our commitment to producing high-quality wines that engage the senses, combining modern techniques with traditional practices.

The Winery

Located in the heart of P.D.O. Peza, Crete’s largest wine-producing area, Digenakis Winery is just 20 km from Heraklion and 10 km from the historic Knossos Palace. The Digenakis family has created a modern winery that goes beyond wine production. We view winemaking as an integral part of a broader cultural experience, intertwining it with music, art, literature, and performance.

A Space for Artists

Our winery serves as a vibrant cultural hub, welcoming artists and fostering creativity. We provide a platform for emerging talents, showcasing their work and enriching the local cultural landscape. The wine tasting experience here is enhanced by the artistic atmosphere, creating a unique environment that connects the urban and rural elements of the region. Artists and performers find inspiration and support within our walls, making Digenakis Winery a true cultural reference point in Crete.

We had a lovely wine tasting here after our tour of a nearby olive farm. The tasting was very reasonably priced at $20 euro per person for the number of wines we got to try and we were also given a small meat and cheese board. Many of the wines are made with varieties of grapes local to Crete. Our hostess was very sweet and a pleasure to meet and the views from the winery were quite pretty.

Digenakis was such a pleasure to visit. Lefteris was such a wonderful host, I think as we were avid wine lovers he shared so much more than we expected with us. We took a tour of the estate, and got to compare current vintages with the wine in tanks, which was the most unique experience we had in Crete. His wines are exemplary of Crete, and I will be seeking them out in the United States. We visted in October, which made was the perfect time of year to see the changing colors of the leaves on the vine, low tourism, and to be able to see the post-harvest wine making activities occurring at the winery. Couldn't recommend this experience more!

We had a really nice experience of wine tasting at Digenakis Winery. The owner, Lefteris, was really welcoming and made us feel comfortable. The lighting and the view are amazing. After a little tour / visit, we were able to buy our favorite wines. Lefteris even gave us a restaurant recommandation for our super where we can bring our wine bottle. Really worth experience. 5/5

Even though we had not booked and they were busy with the early harvest, they allowed us to do the tasting and 5 wines, accompanied by very good cheeses. We particularly appreciated the pure wines Kotsifali (red) and Thrapsathiri (white).
