Discover Diamantakis Winery: A Journey into Crete's Mountainous Wine Heritage

Nestled at an altitude of 450 meters on the eastern foothills of Mount Psiloritis, in the historic Malevizi region, Diamantakis Winery is a hidden gem for wine lovers seeking an authentic taste of Crete.

History & Heritage
Founded in 2007 by the Diamantakis brothers—Giannis, Michael, and Zacharias—the winery is the realization of a lifelong family passion. Rooted in a long generation of grape growers, the founders combined their deep respect for family tradition with modern viticulture. Zacharias, an experienced oenologist, took the lead in winemaking, transforming a rich family heritage into a boutique, award-winning estate.

Philosophy: Honoring Local Identity
The core philosophy of Diamantakis Winery is the preservation and promotion of indigenous Cretan grape varieties. The family firmly believes that the unique microclimate and terroir of the Kato Asites region can produce world-class wines with distinct character. By focusing on local treasures like Vidiano, Liatiko, and Mandilari, and pairing them harmoniously with international varieties like Syrah, they create wines that tell the story of the Cretan land.

Terroir & Distinctive Characteristics

  • The High-Altitude Terroir: The estate's 150-acre vineyards thrive on steep slopes, benefiting from limestone-rich soils, hot Mediterranean sun, and cooling mountain breezes. This unique microclimate ensures slow ripening, yielding grapes with exceptional acidity, concentrated aromas, and complex flavors.
  • Award-Winning Excellence: The winery is globally recognized for its signature labels, most notably the Diamantopetra and Petali series, which consistently earn top accolades at prestigious international wine competitions.
  • The Visitor Experience: More than just a winery, Diamantakis offers an immersive wine-tourism experience centered around genuine Cretan hospitality. Every guest is welcomed warmly for a personalized tour tailored to their individual wine interests. You will walk through the scenic vineyards, step inside the atmospheric barrel cellar, and enjoy curated tastings on a terrace overlooking the production area, giving you a front-row seat to the heart of the winemaking process.

For any wine enthusiast traveling through Crete, a visit to Diamantakis Winery is a must—an invitation to taste the passion, the history, and the rugged beauty of Cretan winemaking in every glass.

A warm and unpretentious welcome from Zacharias, one of the winemaking owners. The wines are excellent and reasonably priced. It's well worth the detour! It's advisable to send an email before your visit.

We enjoyed our wine & food tasting (€30 pp) very much. The wine was very tasty, and the food worked really well with each wine. Our guide was very knowledgable, both on the wines as on how it is all made. I would really recommend everyone who enjoys wine to come here!

We received a very warm welcome from Elpida, who guided us through the world of Cretan grape varieties with impressive expertise, knowledge, and experience. Beyond the fascinating insights into the wines, we also learned a great deal about Cretan and Greek culture. Elpida has a wonderful ability to convey her passion for indigenous grape varieties in a warm, engaging, and highly professional way. Her dedication to the world of wine, combined with her extensive knowledge, made this experience truly special. Thank you for such an enriching and memorable visit. We will certainly appreciate and enjoy Cretan—and Greek—wines even more in the future. Highly recommended!

We had the most wonderful afternoon here. We did the one hour 5 wine tasting and were treated to an additional 2 as a bonus! The host was informative, relaxed and friendly and spoke passionately about her craft. One wine enthusiast and one novice both thoroughly enjoyed our trip. We stayed almost two hours as it was a quiet day and we were enjoying it so much. Bought some excellent value wines to enjoy at home too. Highly recommended!
