If you are a wine lover and ever happen to be in Loire Valley, don’t forget to visit Haute Perche winery. This estate benefits from a superb location. Moreover, it produces two appellations: Anjou Villages Brissac and Coteaux de l’Aubance. The Anjou Villages Brissac appellation area sits around the Château de Brissac Quincé. In fact, it is the highest castle in France. The proximity of the winery to the Loire River, the longest river in France, leads to an excellent aging potential. Due to its ability of a good aging, the winery produces wines rich in sweetness and freshness. The Coteaux de l’Aubance appellation area sits on the left bank of the Loire “l’Aubance.” This area provides enough moisture for noble rot which gives the soft feel and an amazing taste to these wines.
Agnès and Christian Papin founded the Haute Perche Winery in 1966 in the village of Saint Melaine sur Aubance near Angers (Anjou, Loire Valley). From 2012 on their daughter Véronique has run the winery for 7 years and finally decided to hand it over to a Parisian accountant, passionate about wine. Veronique already had initiated the conversion to an organic production and the new owner is now making the necessary investments to make the next step towards BIODYNAMIE. That means that the works in the vineyards will be realised whilst taking into account the natural cycles of the plants, the moon and the whole ecosystem around them, using NO chemicals at all.
The winery offers guided visits through both vineyard and cave on request (Price : 5 to 10€, depending on age and number of persons). It’s a wonderful opportunity to discover the exclusive view over the river « Aubance » from our parcel in the Coteau and get to know more about the process from grapes to wine.
You can also visit the winery for wine tasting, and that is for free! Come and join the winery’s journey and indulge with them in their know-how. Popular wines are Anjou White, Gamay, Coteaux De L’aubance “Cuvée Tradition”, Crémant De Loire White, Rosé De Loire, etc.
