Le Chateau De Fontenay: A 340-Year Legacy

Founded in 1680 along the banks of the Cher River, Le Chateau De Fontenay is nestled in the picturesque Loire Valley, surrounded by 49 acres of lush parkland and 37 acres of thriving vineyards. The original winery was tragically destroyed by the Prussian army in 1871, but it was beautifully rebuilt two decades later by a talented Parisian architect and painter. Since 2006, the estate has been lovingly managed by Nathalie Carli and Philippe, who have dedicated themselves to restoring both the winery and the castle to their former glory.

Under the guidance of artisan winemaker Didier Corby, the Carli family has crafted wines that reflect the unique characteristics of the Touraine region.

Exceptional Wines from a Family Tradition

In collaboration with Didier Corby, the Carli family produces a diverse selection of red, white, rosé, and sparkling wines. To honor their family legacy, Nathalie and Philippe have named four of their wines after their children, adding a personal touch to each bottle.

Wines Crafted with Passion and Precision

Located in Bléré and Athée Sur Cher, within the renowned Touraine Chenonceaux appellation, the vineyard enjoys ample sunlight, consistent ventilation, and low rainfall—ideal conditions for vine cultivation. The terroir, characterized by siliceous clay, sand, and limestone, contributes to the rich aromatic profiles and structured complexity of the wines produced here. Visitors can appreciate the dedication and craftsmanship that go into every bottle, making Le Chateau De Fontenay a must-visit destination for wine enthusiasts.

Staying for the 2nd time at the Château de Fontenay, we can only recommend it! The estate is splendid, calm, tastefully decorated, and very well located between the châteaux of the Loire. The bedding is perfect. The hosts share with passion and generosity on their estate. The quality of their wines does not detract from the stay. Thank you!

A fabulous 3-day stay between Chenonceau and Amboise. We were able to enjoy the perfectly maintained swimming pool and tennis court, wander by bike along the banks of the Cher, and discover the local gastronomy. Nathalie was a wonderful and attentive host (and whose apple pie served for breakfast alone is worth a detour to this little corner of paradise)

Wonderful! Idyllic and also very practical. The chateau is delightful with a lovely pool. The hosts are very welcoming, they are helpful whenever you ask, and also relaxed and friendly. The location is brilliant for visiting chateaux and you can use the bikes (free) for easy trips along the river. Highly recommend!

We had a lovely time at the chateau - delicious breakfast with locally sourced food including their own grape juice and their own honey. The service was excellent, we were fully looked after throughout, and kindly treated to a wine tasting on request. The chateau is situated right in the river, and we used the bikes provided for free by the chateau to cycle to Bléré for dinner on both evenings. Recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing break in beautiful surroundings, with a wonderful host.

Exceptional location We spent 4 nights in the château, which is run as a B&B by Nathalie. The location is perfect for exploring the castles in the area by bike. Free rental bikes are available. However, if you are planning longer tours, it is better to bring your own bikes. The rooms are unique, the location of the château is fantastic, absolutely quiet and right on the banks of the Le Cher. At breakfast you sit together with the other guests at a large table. Only a few rooms are rented out in the castle. There are also three small holiday homes on the property. A large pool completes the offer. A tasting of the house wine is also possible on request. Highly recommended. We thank Nathalie and Philippe for their hospitality. Merci beaucoup!

We stayed three nights at the Château de Fontenay. The Carli family, the owners of the place, gave us a remarkable welcome. Our room offered a magnificent view of the Cher. A heated outdoor swimming pool, bicycle and billiards table are available to enhance your stay. The breakfast is varied and plentiful with "homemade" products. Ideally located between Amboise and Chenonceaux, we visited several castles. Thank you to Mrs. Carli and her team for her kindness, the time spent sharing and her wise advice on the region!

A truly wonderful place to stay with incredibly friendly, interesting and relaxed hosts! A wonderful breakfast with mostly homemade delicacies on the wisteria-covered terrace in a beautiful park, bikes to rent for tours to the nearby castles, and all of this rounded off with a wine tasting with wines from the property's own vineyard, which are delicious. It certainly won't be the last time we stay there, thank you very much again for the super relaxing and wonderful vacation with you!
